Getting a good deal on your TV.

Getting a good deal on your TV.

For all of us TV geeks, a horrible time eventually comes upon us, generally every few years if you're well off, or whenever enough money can be scraped together for those like me. What time would I be talking about? It's when we have to upgrade our televisions for ones with the latest technology, because honestly, who wants to be stuck in the past?

So, getting the best Plasma and LCD tv deals can be a real issue. One must shop around for the best deal, but be sure to check all the facts through when you see a low price, sometimes it can be missing an extended warrenty included in a higher price. Delivery prices can also vary dramatically, so make sure those are taken into account.

With the online shops, haggling isn't always an option, but a couple of highstreet retailers might pricematch, so it never hurts to ask. The LA times reports that march is an optimum time to grab a bargain as the rollout of new sets hits full flow, so watch out for bargins!

Raise a Glass to the Armadillo Shoe

Raise a Glass to the Armadillo Shoe

Alexander McQueen's death this week rocked the fashion world. It's a terrible loss. Funny, me saying this, when I'm a J. Crew basics kind of dresser. I would never be caught dead in a pair of armadillo shoes, and I'm far too practical to buy anything resembling the outlandish fashions McQueen designed.

But what I'll miss about McQueen is that he treated fashion as akin to performance art and used his own fame as a platform to comment on the fashion world as a whole.

Though I love clothes, I've always found the high fashion world completely ridiculous. What I like least is the seriousness with which fashion is always treated. Ridiculously high heeled shoes (Herve Leger was the cause of more than one spill on the catwalk last year) and equally outlandish clothes are treated with grim seriousness.

Still, the concepts that start in the pages of Vogue are the same ones I'm reaching for when shopping at Nordstroms, even if they've been whittled down to a bare whisper of the original. So I recognize the need for the designers, if I don't always appreciate their approach.

McQueen brought something fresh to the fashion world. It's no wonder Lady Gaga sported his clothes in her fantastic video Bad Romance. They both have great talent and a sense of humor. So let's raise a glass to Alexander McQueen. May his memory live on.

Celtic Jewelry: Enigmatically Beautiful

Celtic Jewelry: Enigmatically Beautiful
The beauty of Celtic jewelry lies in its origin, design and material used. Symbolic of the ancient Irish and Scottish culture, Celtic crosses, knots and weaves are popular accessories in the present times. Although their symbolisms are unknown to the current era, their mysterious essence and gothic appearance have made them popular contemporary accessories.

Celtic Jewelry: Facts
Silver is the most popular metal used for making Celtic jewelry. The conventional, earthy look and feel of silver is perfectly suited for creating ancient Celtic symbols. Silver and sterling silver have the additional advantages of being sturdy, and complements every type of clothing. A typical Celtic bracelet or ring is made from a single metal; occasionally, these jewelry pieces are also incorporated with gemstones.

Lacking written records, there is a lot of speculation about the meanings of specific symbols. Most assume that they depict concepts, such as love and brotherhood, which, however, is not true. The intricate knot and weave patterns stand for the general concepts of continuity and connectivity. Individual artisans may want to give their artwork a particular meaning. However, that happens purely at a personal level.

Celtic Jewelry: Popular Designs
There are a huge variety of Celtic jewelry, including bracelet, earrings, rings and necklaces, offered at online stores. However, ensure that you buy them from reputed stores, since these stores can guarantee you the latest trends and celebrity-inspired jewelry designs. Some popular designs are:

Fleur De Lys earrings – The pair comes in a perfect size that makes you look enigmatic without being flamboyant. It catches just the right kind of attention you desire at a social gathering. Made of sterling silver, these earrings can suit any casual or formal outfit, just like Rihanna did in her super sexy outfit.

Ruby red rose ring – A beautiful solid silver rose ring can be the perfect gift for your Lady Love. A red cubic zirconia stone at the heart of the ring can give it just the bit of color it requires to look glamorous.

Cross pendant – Worth being a part of the jewelry collection of both, men and women, this lovely pendant is made of real sterling silver. The traditional design and the embedded rubies make it a classy morning and evening accessory.

Leather bracelet – In addition to silver, leather is another popular material used for making Celtic ornaments. The ends of this braided leather bracelet come together with real sterling silver, giving you the authentic feel of an age-old Celtic bracelet.

HDMI without wires - sorta

HDMI without wires - sorta

One of the things that has always bugged me about all the flash HDTVs we"ve got these days is that, although it is reletively easy to mount them attractively on walls, it is actually very difficult to stop ugly wires hanging out the bottom without say, drilling into your walls and routing cables through them. So this is why we like the RocketFish WirelessHD. It lets you remove one of those cables, HDMI, and replace it with a little box which can be easily placed on the wall.

It works at up to 33ft, so you could say, put your blu-ray player in a room away from your TV if you really wanted to....

However, the pair of units costs an eye watering $599.99, so it might actually be cheaper to get cables routed through your wall!

Real Estate Investing

Real Estate Investing
The US government, in January 2009, announced attractive tax credit for first time home buyers, to combat the real estate investing slump witnessed post 2008-2009 economic recession. The program, operational through April 2010, is aimed at boosting buyer confidence, and enhancing investment and the overall economy. The lowered property prices are the perfect time to purchase and invest in property, be it high-end or average-priced ones.
Real Estate Investing: Popular Options

Here are some popular options for buyers to choose from:
Bank-owned property: Also called real estate owned property or REOs, these are foreclosed property repossessed from owners who could not pay their mortgages. These homes are normally well-maintained; however, a property that requires repairs and improvement may also be a good deal. Hence, buying such homes can be a double bonanza for first-time home buyers.
Undervalued property: Also called fixer upper homes, these properties are great options for people who buy, repair and improve properties (rehabbing) to sell them for a profit. Such property can fetch great returns in a short period of time (as the economy improves) and hence, are the best investment tools in times of recession. Property buyers can also consider purchasing property in short sales and wholesales.
However, awareness about the market and the associated risks is vital for investing in a property. Experts also suggest following certain guidelines to reap the best rewards.

Real Estate Investing: Tips for Investors
To make a business out of real estate investing, remember the following points:
  • The property must remain beneficial to you regardless of the tax structure and laws of your country. That is, do not buy a property considering just the existing tax laws. Tax laws may change and be detrimental to your goals.
  • Consider the market value of the property by comparing it with the nearby properties. Also compare the property price and rents. You can calculate the worth of the property based on these calculations.
  • Specialization in one field, be it rehabbing, short sales, fixer uppers or foreclosures.
  • Examine the seller’s insurance coverage to ensure that it is not based on lower replacement value, since this will cost you more in terms of insurance when you provide a greater purchase price.
